Broadband Beam Smoothing on OMEGA with Two-Dimensional Smoothing by Spectral Dispersion
LLE Review, Volume 80 197 High laser-irradiation uniformity is an important requirement for successful implosions of inertial confinement fusion (ICF) targets,1 particularly for the direct-drive OMEGA laser system that directly illuminates ICF targets. Direct-drive laser irradiation that is not perfectly uniform imprints on the target surface and perturbs the spherical symmetry. This seeds the ...
متن کاملFast - Discharge - Initiated KrF Laser
Intense laser emission has been observed from the KrF molecule formed by a chemical reaction initiated by fast-discharge circuitry. With a gas mixture of He:Kr:NF, = 500:50:1 and a sample pressure of 700 Torr, an output energy of 0. 8 mj was measured from a 25-nsec laser pulse (FWHM). Spectral analysis of the laser emission indicated laser action at 248.5 and 249.5 nm.
متن کاملLarge-Area Electron Beam Diode and Gas Cell Design for a KrF Laser IFE System*
In a KrF laser inertial fusion energy (IFE) power plant [1] an array of N laser amplifiers would focus and symmetrically illuminate a fusion target with a total of ~3 MJ of laser light. The lasers are pumped by large-area electron beam diodes, whose technology is presently being developed on the Electra [1] and Nike [2] facilities at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC. Sufficient p...
متن کاملLaser Beam Hazard for flight personnel
Lasers can produce a beam of light of such intensity that permanent damage to human tissue, in particular the retina of the eye, can be caused instantaneously, even at distances of over 10 km. At lower intensities, laser beams can seriously affect visual performance without causing physical damage to the eyes; causing transient damage or causing sensation and loss of focus. Laser illumination o...
متن کاملFemtosecond laser interference technique with diffractive beam splitter for fabrication of three-dimensional photonic crystals
A simple optical interference method to fabricate microperiodic structures was demonstrated. Femtosecond laser pulse was split by a diffractive beam splitter and overlapped with two lenses. Temporal overlap of the split femtosecond pulses, which requires 10 mm order accuracy in optical path lengths, was automatically achieved by this optical setup. One-, two-, and three-dimensional periodic mic...
